Amazon's 'exclusive' Fire TV trial is just a fancy name for its standard returns policy

Amazon Fire TV

Amazon is sending emails to some of its customers, telling them they're "eligible for an exclusive offer" to try out the $99 Fire TV box free-of-charge for 30 days. If they don't get along with the little Android-powered streamer and gaming console, they can return it without obligation and without being left out of pocket -- so long as they follow the conditions of Amazon's returns policy, which includes keeping the hardware in new condition. Of course, this raises the question of how exclusive the invitation really is, when any regular customer could get the same end result by dabbling with the Fire TV for a month and then using the normal returns procedure to get a full refund. Maybe the marketing people just didn't want to phrase it that way, or maybe there's a saving in terms of shipping costs -- we've asked Amazon to clarify.

[Thanks, Jeffrey]
